USCC

November 21, 2010

Dear Sophie:
I want to thank you and your wonderful organization, Piece by Piece, for making the inauguration of our new corporate headquarters so meaningful. After fifty‐four years in Vernon, we decided to move our corporate headquarters to custom built offices in Rancho Cucamonga. These offices were designed in part to highlight our extensive corporate art collection.

USCC artists

We commissioned Piece by Piece to do a triptych mosaic mural to be a focal point in our executive conference room. This was to be a large (5' x 20') monumental abstract original work of art. The work took many artists and hundreds of man‐hours to complete, yet it was completed on time and on budget. Most important of all, the mosaic is a beautiful work of art that is really appreciated by all who see it. [See more images here.]

At the dedication of the mosaic, we invited all of the artists and teachers from Piece by Piece to our headquarters to be introduced and to take part in the festivities. At this event, you described the wonderful work your organization does. All of my employees appreciated that at the same time we were receiving such a wonderful work of art, we as a company were helping to give back to our community. This added both beauty and meaning to the event.

Thank you so much for guiding this large project to a successful and inspiring conclusion.
Very truly yours,
Jeffrey L. Levine, President

APCH

February 19, 2010

I have been an executive board member of A Place Called Home for 5 years now. APCH is a non-profit center which serves at-risk youth in South Los Angeles. For the past few years, I have been helping with our annual fundraiser from which we raise most of our operating costs for the year.

Since APCH is a program for children, I always feel that the way the room at the gala looks should reflect the energy and vibrancy of kids as opposed to being decorated for adults. Another APCH board member, Steve Winston, put me in touch with a wonderful person named Sophie Alpert. She had the great idea of starting Piece By Piece which puts mosaic material and training into the hands of the adults from the very same community as APCH.

I thought it was fitting to use those brightly colored mosaic pots made by men and women of South Los Angeles on the tables for our 2009 celebration of the children of South Los Angeles. They were beautiful. Good job, Sophie, for imagining and manifesting Piece By Piece.
Best regards,
Hannah Cox, Board Member

Dear Sophie,
I would like to thank you and your organization for helping to make our 25th anniversary in business such a success. The mosaic mirror came out more beautiful than I could have imagined. It has a prominent location in our office and is a constant reminder of how special Piece by Piece is.

We are proud to have been able to help someone less fortunate in our community. We look forward to more involvement with Piece by Piece.

Sincerely,
Abbey Rosenblum

Biller

September 23, 2009
Dear Sophie:
The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation is proud to partner with your organization. We were introduced to Piece by Piece by your board member and committed volunteer Debbie Powell. Debbie brought us to your studio earlier this year, as she knew your work would align with our Foundation's priorities. The Biller Family Foundation's mission is to work as a catalyst to advance community programs that educate and energize individuals to both achieve personal goals and inspire others, so we were naturally impressed with Piece by Piece's work.

It was immediately evident that participants were not only engaged in creating mosaic art, but possessed a strong sense of pride in their artistic creations. Specifically, the Biller Family Foundation admires the hope and sense of autonomy Piece by Piece instills in each artist when one of their art pieces is sold. We are impressed with Piece by Piece's system by which artists get to keep a significant portion of the profits after each mosaic is sold without having to worry about covering the costs for expenditures, as all the material is provided to participants free of charge.

This letter serves to recognize the excellent achievements of Piece by Piece. By nurturing creativity, encouraging entrepreneurship, and giving underserved adults the tools and self-confidence needed to be financially self-sufficient, Piece by Piece makes an outstanding contribution to our Los Angeles community.
Sincerely,
Sarah Lyding, Executive Director

MEND

March 27. 2009

Dear Sophie,

It has been a wonderful feeling since being introduced to you and your foundation. It all started just a few months ago .. .. having a friend bring a few of your artists mosaics to my holiday coffee in my home and having 10 women say, WOW, those are beautiful. Within fifteen minutes I purchases were made …"I love this frame for my home in Mammoth." "This table is incredible and will be gorgeous on my patio". So, the story begins. They were moved with your mission, to empower residents in underserved communities of Los Angeles, "Rebuilding Lives One Broken Tile at a Time."

Your mission and your message have left so many of us awestruck and inspired with your journey. I am so pleased to have partnered with you and your fqundation in soliciting your artists to design our centerpiece vases for MEND's Hope For Tomorrow Star Gala fund raiser. MEND, Meet Each Need With Dignity, is a non-profit foundation located in the Northeast San Fernando Valley serving low income, unemployed and un-insured families and children with emergency food, clothing, medical, dental and vision care, ESL and educational classes and job placement.

Working with your volunteers was a pleasure in creating a design for our unique centerpiece vases. Each vase is more beautiful than the next. We cannot wait to present our four mosaic I "Star Awards" to our honorees. The awards are the most unique we have ever scene.
Thank you for partnering with MEND and having your volunteers inspire your artists in creating our gorgeous vases and awards!
It is our honor to support your foundation.
Regards,
Letty Siegel

Universal

To Whom It May Concern:

In 2008, I learned of the great work that Sophie Alpert was doing in the community through the nonprofit she had recently formed, Piece by Piece.

When I conducted a site visit to see how Universal Studios Hollywood's Discover A Star Foundation could support the organization, I was immediately impressed with their work. By observing their program in action, I could see people engaged in their mosaic project, and I was so touched by the pride I saw expressed by the artists.

This was a charity that I knew was a great fit for our Foundation, and our Board agreed to award a grant. In addition, we commissioned Piece by Piece to create the centerpieces for our largest annual fundraiser, the Universal Studios Charity Golf Classic.

Needless to say, they were the most beautiful centerpieces in the history of our tournament.
Each one uniquely made, each one representing someone's pride in their work of art, and each one representing someone's hope that they will improve their difficult situation. We auctioned off the centerpieces to the golfers and guests of the tournament, and each of the 40 were sold.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Sophie and Piece by Piece on this project. It was effortless on our part. I simply told Sophie what we wanted and when, and she made it happen - flawlessly!

Sincerely,
Dorothea G. Scattaglia
