The creation of Piece by Piece was inspired by several successful micro-enterprise agencies in South Africa assisting HIV positive women. These organizations provide skills training and raw materials free of charge to women who craft incredibly beautiful beaded pieces of art which the organizations then help them sell for profit.

With so much urban poverty in Los Angeles, Piece by Piece was launched to address the need in our own communities, replicating the South African model with unique, mosaic arts workshops. Using the core tenets of empowerment, innovation and skills development, Piece by Piece enables participants to channel their natural creative energies into a vibrant art form as well as encouraging entrepreneurship. The workshops also foster pride and a sense of accomplishment.

Knowing it would be difficult to create a successful workplace environment without access to the many social services that this population needs, Piece by Piece has partnered with several community organizations with a similar vision that are willing to share resources.
