Playful, textured, and full of character, this 9.5" x 10" mosaic captures a stylized snapshot of a canine companion enjoying the outdoors. The piece is a striking example of pique assiette (the use of broken plates), constructing the dog's form from classic blue-and-white patterned china shards. These traditional patterns contrast boldly against a vibrant background of solid orange tiles, evoking a sunny, energetic atmosphere, while a base of green ceramic fragments grounds the scene in the grass of the park.

This piece was handcrafted by Santa Monica-based artist Vicki, who brings a unique visual storytelling perspective to her work from her background in film and television production. She describes her artistic process as learning to "follow your instincts," a philosophy clearly visible in the organic, expressive arrangement of tiles in this charming work.

Pieces are intended for indoor use. Please clean gently with a microfiber cloth.

Vicki is inspired by devoted artists, recovering homeless people, and individuals transitioning out of homelessness, because they help her to see the better reality that we can create together as a community. She has an MFA in film and television production, from the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California. Her interests are in social justice, feminism, and diversity. She is very eclectic and likes a variety of topics, moods, and colors.

Piece by Piece provides no-cost mosaic art workshops to low-income residents of South Los Angeles, Skid Row, and surrounding areas. These classes provide folks who need it with the healing power of art by teaching them how to make mosaics, and in turn, the trade enables them to earn income through their unique creations.

Repair Policy

Mosaic is a strong medium and we use a variety of new and recycled pieces to create our works of art. Our artists are trained in using the most professional techniques to ensure quality work. However, in rare occasions, there may be need for a repair. Piece by Piece offers repairs due to material defects on purchased items at no cost for two years from date of sale. For items that have been broken, left outside, or in need of other repairs, we will assess the extent of damage and, if repairs are possible, provide a quote to restore your item. Please contact info@piecebypiece.org  if you have any questions.  

Refund Policy

We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.

To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase.

If your return is accepted, we’ll send you a return shipping label, as well as instructions on how and where to send your package. Items sent back to us without first requesting a return will not be accepted.
